about

This track is a tribute to the Orisha Oshun, ( Osun, Oxum) with songs from within the African Diaspora that share similarities in melody and lyrics. The first track was partially recorded in Trinidad and Tobago by Sheena 'Ajibola" Richardson. We added some of our vocals in London. The second track is a Lucumi praise song from Matanzas, which Daniela heard in an old Smithsonian recording. The last track is from the Candomblé tradition in Brasil. The journey took us through lockdown when Sheena gave us some zoom sessions all the way from Trinidad. We were also happy to work with Ricardo again, who is from Brasil but based in Brighton. It is always fascinating to look at what unites us rather than what divides us, and to appreciate how songs, melody and language are passed down intact despite distances of hundreds of miles and relative isolation.
