about

This sequence is a series of praise songs to Nana Buruku. The grandmother of the Orisha; wise and powerful, worshipped by the people of Dahomey (Arara in Cuba). She is also worshipped amongst the Lucumi people. Another Orisha, like Babalu Aye she has traversed many lands. Associated with lagoons, swamps and the forest, she is as old as time. She embodies creative power. Sometimes she is considered to be Babalu Aye's wife and sometimes his Mother or Grandmother. The embodiment of the Sacred Feminine she is a stern, intense and strict Orisha.
