This track is a song from the spiritual tradition of Espiritismo. Espiritismo is a practise of communicating with spirit which originated in Europe. However, in Cuba it has been highly influenced by African religions and the people who follow it, and is known by many as Espiritismo Cruzado. Mama Francisca is an archetype; a spirit from La Commission de Los Congas (the Commission of African Spirits) who may have been a practitioner of Palo in her life time. She has an affinity with Madre de Agua or in the Lucumi practise, Yemaya. Her character is loving and all encompassing but also brave and warrior- like. She is an archetype and represents one energy for many spirits. People in the Afro-Cuban Diaspora who practise this tradition may have her in their Cuadro Espiritual (Spiritual Quarter). This song evokes her spirit within Misa Espirituales and Cajon para Muertos. The former is a meeting of mediums where song and prayer are used to evoke spirit to come down and give messages to the Congregation. Cajon is a meeting with musical accompaniment.
